You probably think you just chose your profile picture for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., because it looks good. But new research suggests your selection goes way beyond thinking it was just a flattering shot. A new study analyzed more than 66,000 Twitter profile images and found that a slew of factors in each pic can tell a lot about a person.

So, what does your selected snap say about you?

If your picture is just your smiling face: You're very conscientious and aware of what's expected from you in various situations (i.e., posting a shot of a happy-looking you as your profile snap).

If your picture has other people in it: Surprise, surprise—you're most likely an extrovert. This group was also found to go with pictures that showed youth, be it from an image where the account holder looked young or one with other youngish people around them.

If your picture is not of a face: You're open to new things and experiences. By bucking the traditional shot, you're revealing yourself to be a nonconformist who blazes her own trail.

If your picture feels a little cluttered: You're relaxed, cheerful, and not likely to sweat the little stuff.

If your picture is bright but a little blurry: You're a go-with-the-flow kind of person who wants everyone to get along.

If your picture is dark, simple, and shows your face very close up: You fall in the neurotic personality column, meaning you're prone to anxiety and jealousy or get easily frustrated.

If you're wearing glasses (but not sunglasses): You rank high on the IQ scale and embrace what are widely perceived as intellectual qualities.
