Next week marks the first Monday in May, and you know what that means: the 2016 Met Gala! The red carpet event kicking off the opening of the new Costume Institute exhibition is going down next Monday night. Here's what you need to know about the festivities:

When: Monday, May 2.

Where: For the first time, E! will be reporting from the fabled steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The coverage will start at 7:30 P.M. with hosts Cat Sadler and Zuri Hall interviewing all the stars as they arrive on the red carpet, along with Giuliana Rancic, correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, stylist Johnny Wujek, and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo. The feed is not live in real time, so for up-to-the-minute updates, be sure to follow along on Glamour's Snapchat (@Glamour), Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter.

What: The gala marks the opening of "Manus x Machina," the Costume Institute's salute to historic, game-changing technological advancements in garment creation. The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday, May 5.

Why: This red carpet is unlike any other: Celebrities go all out to align with the exhibit's theme (remember when Rihanna showed up in that massive canary yellow couture cape by Chinese designer Guo Pei last year?) and partner with fashion's greatest designers to pull it off. And there's always a super-cute or super-dramatic moment, like the model selfie in the museum's bathroom or the infamous elevator scandal (you know the one).
