Maybe it's just because we have rom coms on the brain this week, but Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's love story reads like our favorite flick come to life. (Which only fuels our unrealistic Mindy Lahiri-like dreams that these poetic scenarios might play out for us one day IRL—but we digress.) Reynolds is opening up about the moment he first fell in love with Blake, and the scene reads like something straight out of a Nora Ephron movie (more on those later this week!). Here's how all the adorableness went down, according to Reynolds' recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Radio...
True to all rom com cliches, Blake and Ryan started out as just friends. Reynolds revealed that they started a friendship while filming The Green Lantern together. "We were buddies for a long time, which I think is the best way to have a relationship, to start as friends," Reynolds said. (And every classic rom com would agree.)
Until they went on a double-date together—but with other people. It's such a classic setup: They are each with someone else when it's so clear that they should be together! (This is the point where we are screaming at the movie screen.) "About a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single we went on a double date—she was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl," Reynolds recalled.
And that's when the sparks flew. "It was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across," Reynolds said. It was history from that point on: The two were married in 2012 and welcomed daughter James just last year. The only thing that would complete this rom com fairy tale is if their double dates ended up together as well.
