Like millions of Americans, Donald Trump stepped away from work on Monday afternoon to take a glimpse at a "once-in-a-lifetime" solar eclipse. Joined by First Lady Melania Trump and his youngest son, Barron, the President gathered with his family on the Truman Balcony to gaze up at the sky and watch as the cosmic show made its way toward the nation's capital. As the First Family stood outside the White House watching with their special eclipse glasses, the President broke from the pack, took off his glasses, and glanced directly at the sun.

“As he did this, someone in a crowd of aides below shouted ‘Don’t look,’” wrote The Wall Street Journal’s Ted Mann in a tweet, which also included a photo of the President looking upward sans glasses.

Considering the President's habit of ignoring science (see: the Paris climate accord), it's not surprising that Trump seemed indifferent to safety recommendations for the solar eclipse. Similarly fitting, Twitter had a total field day with the moment and instantly turned it into a meme.
