Matte lipstick is on trend from coast to coast, but your take on matte might vary depending on your location. Here, Glamour uses our picks from COVERGIRL’s Katy Kat Matte collection to create demi-matte looks that play well in three of our favorites cities.
LOS ANGELES: MATTE ALL OVER
Keep up in the City of Angels: LA ladies’ favored lip look will make yours look plump in photos.
STEP 1: Create a dramatic shape by lining slightly outside your natural lip line on your top and bottom lips with a nude lip pencil. (Don't go overboard, or you’ll start to look clownish.)
STEP 2: Fill in both lips with a muted shade—here, Sphinx.
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL: TWO-TONE MATTE
Looking to shake things up? Go two-tone in the Twin Cities.
STEP 1: Line your bottom lip along its natural line, then fill in your bottom lip. (We used Kitty Purry.)
STEP 2: Pick a contrasting shade and repeat on your top lip. (Our pick: Coral Cat.)
STEP 3: Use the color you used on your top lip as a highlighter on the middle of your bottom lip to bring the look together.
NEW YORK CITY: OMBRÉ MATTE
In a city of 8.4 million, turn heads with this vampy take on ombré.
STEP 1: Line top and bottom lips with a red shade, such as Crimson Cat.
STEP 2: Fill the sides of both lips with a darker shade; we used Perry Panther.
STEP 3: Fill in the middle of both lips with the red shade—here, Crimson Cat. Blend and blot again.
