Will there be a Big Little Lies season 3? According to executive producer and star Nicole Kidman, you can bet on it. Four years ago the show’s season-two finale ended with Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) turning herself in for pushing Perry down the stairs and the Monterey Five finally being liberated from their big lie. However, fans were left with a lot of burning questions only another season could answer.
Here’s everything we know about Big Little Lies season 3.
The third season has not been confirmed by HBO...yet. While fans are begging the network to bring back the Monterey Five for another season, nothing has been confirmed by the cable network. In 2019, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said that although he’s open to the idea, he doesn’t think it’s likely. “I love this group of people—I would do anything with them. But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood,” Bloys told TVLine last summer. “We have deals with some of them—Nicole is doing her next show [The Undoing] with us. I just think it's not realistic.
“If they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules’—then sure. But I just don’t think it's realistic,” he added.
Nicole Kidman, however, says it’s definitely happening. “I loved Big Little Lies,” she said during a Q&A at the CME Group Tour Championship on November 17, 2023, per Deadline. “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.”
This is not the first time Kidman has spoken about wanting to make season three happen. In a 2019 interview with Elle, Kidman told fans to “just give us a sec.” She continued, "We’d love to [do another season] because we love being together, and it’s lovely spending time with your friends, and with such good material.”

Reese Witherspoon wants Jennifer Lopez to get involved. In fact, the Monterey Five want a third season so bad that Witherspoon is already discussing which A-list celebrity she really hopes will join the cast. During an Instagram Live video chat with costar Laura Dern in May 2020, the actor said she’d love to get Jennifer Lopez on board.
“I’m always hoping for J.Lo to show up because I really enjoy some J.Lo,” Witherspoon said.
Dern agreed, replying, “Come on, J.Lo!”
Witherspoon also made it clear that the busy cast is trying to make it happen. “We want to do it,” she told viewers. “We’re kind of waiting. We’re trying, guys. We’re trying to come up with the right story—and how do we end after that cliffhanger?”
“[Nicole] just texted that we have to do another one right away,” Dern added. “I really do fantasize that we’ll do it again because [I] miss those characters. We’re so lucky. They’re just the best characters.”
