Chocolate, roses, champagne, candlelit dinners pour deux. Pfffftttt. Single or taken, there are some vacations where we just want to banish any hints of romance and trade it for koozies, culture, and craziness with our flock of best friends.

But why stay at a cookie-cutter hotel when you can rent out one of these swoon-worthy abodes from airbnb? You’ll remember them for years to come and, when you tally up the final budget, you’ll probably save a few bucks along the way. Plus, treehouse living, anyone? All of these choices come loaded with cool extras, and are located in cities and towns around the world packed with fun breweries, live music, amazing park adventures and more.

P.S. We’ll still take that chocolate and champagne, though.

2. Converted Brewery in Christchurch, England (£400 per night, or about $520 USD)

Excuse us while we grab our brolly—serious across-the-pond wanderlust is raining down on us. In this one-of-a-kind haven, you and the crew can spread out in five gorgeous bedrooms right around the corner from the river. The quirky abode makes a great stomping ground for dinner parties if you feel like spending the night inside, but this defunct brewery is also close to plenty of (currently operating) bars and restaurants. You can also take a bus to Bournemouth if you feel like venturing out for a day spent in the sand. The ride over only takes about 15 minutes, but you'll feel like you’re in an entirely different state of mind at its spectacular stretch of beaches.

3. Treehouse in Atlanta, Georgia ($350 per night)

So, a tree may grow in Brooklyn, but this epic, magical, private treehouse glows in Georgia. Literally—thanks to charming string lights that stud the bridge entrance. Here, a cozy bedroom, a living room featuring gorgeous antique flourishes, and a greenery-studded deck make for a dreamy experience that your inner 7-year-old will go absolutely bonkers for. You may never want to leave, but if you feel like trading in the mystical woods for city life, you’re a few minutes away from downtown Atlanta. But we think we’ll just keep sitting here sipping tea, recounting stories with the bestie, and chilling with our favorite pine tree.

9. The Brewer’s Cottage in Red Hill South, Victoria, Australia ($282 per night)

The land down under never looked so good (especially thanks to the fact that this fantastic flat is outfitted with striking pieces from local artists). Yes, we would very much like to sip on a craft brew, enjoy a slice of rural paradise with a handful of close friends—erm, mates—and trampoline jump to our heart’s content. And if you ever feel like venturing off the property, the nearby wineries, boutiques, and galleries aren't a bad way to spend an afternoon. But we think we’ll just hang by that outdoor fire pit and wash down all those sudsy beverages with some BBQ brisket…

At the famed author’s real-life abode, you’ll be dazzled by the impressive 1920s architecture (you’ll have to duck under doors if you’re tall) and blown away by the matchless views of the garden and ocean. The quirky furnishings pay tribute to the history of the place and the antique writing desk in the bedroom may just spark you to pen the next great American novel in “Butterfly Town,” USA. Traveling with more mice and women? The studio shares property with the Steinbeck Cottage and Traveler’s Cottage, if you want to up the number in your vacation.

12. Covered Bridge in Nevada City, California ($199 per night)

No, this isn’t like a scene from The Hangover where a gaggle member finds herself alone on a rooftop come morning. If you’re waking up from a night of overdoing it on the vino (you are, after all, a quick stroll from downtown Nevada City, where wine tasting opportunities abound), this is the kind of architectural marvel you’d want to feel hungover in: marble countertops, bold artwork, a handsome fireplace, and sleek appliances complete the modern décor of this stunning house. Spend your days sunbathing in the relaxing patio among the hummingbirds and elegant trees with a good book, studded by conversation with your bestie. Or, if you’re craving adventure, hit up the many hiking and mountain biking trails that await in Gold Country.
