While we celebrated Kim Kardashian's 35th birthday with a trip down beauty memory lane, a pop artist who goes by the name Saint Hoax put together an image of her husband Kanye West's morphing into his wife's with the help strobing and dark concealer. The caption: "The power of contouring #KimKardashian." And just like it sounds, the whole thing is mesmerizing.
Could this simply be meant as pure cotton candy entertainment? Is it meant to hint at the ways Kanye has influenced Kim's style over the years? That's a thought. Or perhaps the idea is to get us thinking on a larger scale about the way we're completely changing our faces with makeup these days and not embracing our features the way they are. Our money is on the last option.
This artist (who has not revealed her name but goes by the pronounce "she") has gained with her work before, specifically for her series using Disney princesses to make a statement about rape in families and another in which the princesses were removed from famous scenes to ask the question "What if the princess could save herself?" Her work rarely is simply for pure fun. And with makeup artists and celebrities like Reese Witherspoon speaking out against overly obvious contouring that has taken over social media feeds, it's an idea of what the contouring craze is doing to our sense of self is getting a lot of buzz right now. And, well, with just how over-the-top and out of control contouring has gotten, we're down to join the conversation.
